It's sad to see that people today are being sold across the borders against their will. Over 27 million people are enslaved into the human trafficking trade. The fact that most of them are sold into the sex trade only makes it even more necessary for us to be aware about the severity of this issue. Most people aren't even aware of this issue and I think that sometimes our social attitudes may also affect the problem regarding human trafficking/sex trade. Media today has blurred the lines between acceptable behavior and sexual exploitation. For example, 50 cent's music video praises the purchase of prostituted women. It teaches young kids that prostitution is sexy and glamorous. Ad campaigns today also have highly sexual content. We are constantly bombarded with explicit campaigns used to sell clothing, perfume, aftershave – just about every commodity that are out there. Take Abercrombie and Fitch for example. They are known for their sexual ads, disturbing products (thongs for pre-teens) and racy slogans. We have also glamorized the word "pimp." Today, people have turned this word into positive meanings. For example, to "pimp your ride" or "pimp your Web site" now means to make it cool. This phrase is now being used as a misguided attempt to appeal to young people. Until we've recognize the damaging impact of human trafficking at home and abroad, this issue will continue to grow out of hand. This issue is very complicated because this is something that would require global action. So until we have established an infrastructure abroad like the ones we have here today (laws and law enforcement, safety standards, and so on), we will have an environment where criminals of all kinds can continue to flourish.
Question: Based on the secretive nature of human trafficking, how does law enforcements learn of potential cases to investigate?
