Cultural ARTifact

Who: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson
What: Seagram Building, New York
When: 1956-1958
Bronze and glass skin that masks its concrete and steel frame.
This represents global culture because it's a sign of modernity. This building was built in the fifties, when skyscrapers were popping up everywhere. It is a symbol of the future and how global participation can only bring us forward with new ideas and possibilities.
Questions:
How do you think this impacted America in a positive way?
Do you think that people were negative about this structure?
What characteristics does this building have that make it "modern"?
