For as long as I can remember people have always talked about AIDS. Not really knowing what it was, I grew up looking down on people with AIDS and stayed as far away as I could from people who had it- this is what I was taught.
Now that I am older, I have become educated about the truth of this disease and my opinions have changed. I have more compassion for these victims and know that they can potentially die from this disease. Not everyone who has AIDS had a choice in the matter. Many African women are raped by men who have AIDS and they refuse to use a condom.
Ultimately the question that comes to light is, Why do people judge you if you have AIDS?
It is a life threatening disease, that's why and people will always value their lives over others. It's in their blood. This disease is a pandemic. Something that is spread from place to place and it just takes one person to begin spreading the disease to a new environment.
Because of the diseases potential to spread, the phrase "Diseases that are 'over there', are potentially 'over here'", is becoming true.
How can this spreading be stopped? government involvement? condoms? abstinence? ---Check to all three.
Governments should start educating their people on AIDS and its fatal characteristics and provide medication for people who are infected.
To find a way to cover the costs of this, though, is the tough part and that is what is in debate today.
