What to do?

I just can't believe we let this happen to the world. We talk about world peace, helping world poverty and curing diseases but we don't even have workers' rights. We talk about wanting the world economies to grow? Well, I doubt they will get far with 10 cents per hour wages. There isn't a lot to say about sweatshops because obviously they are bad for anyone. I mean I understand companies doing what they have to do to earn profits but this is just over the line. Humans' lives are being tampered with here.

I never realized how bad the big corporations were taking advantage of these workers. I mean 10 cents an hour! How do you live off that! In the first article Finn talks about how we could change the way we buy things. Yes, the idea would be great if money was not a factor in all of our lives. Most of us just want the cheapest thing we can find. I say the fact that the companies are putting these items on shelves should be penalized somehow.

From Roddick, I really liked the idea of "preferred companies" where there is a way for the consumers to be informed about which companies are treating their workers right. This will give us the factory names, addresses and will help the consumers monitor factory conditions. The way sweatshops are being used today is just wrong. But really most of the change has to be with the consumers because they are the ones buying and deciding which items to purchase.
