We can break down the logical fallacies into three important things:
1. Bad proof
2. Bad conclusion
3. Disconnect between proof and conclusion
My favorite sin was the Sixth Deadly Sin: The Red Herring
This happens to us in every day life and we try to get away from what the real argument is at hand, and then we end up getting ourselves into more of a mess because we don't know what we are really arguing about.
A good example of this is when you and your roommate are arguing about her music being too loud and that you can't study and then all of the sudden she lashes back with, "well why don't you do the dishes and take out the trash." Then you have totally changed the direction of the argument and it is all downhill from there.
The problem with this sin is that its the wrong argument and a distraction from the real one. We switch the argument in mid-fight to one that is off target in hopes of fooling the other person.
Basically we have a problem when we don't give our listener the connection between our reason for the argument and the point that we want to make at the end of our argument. We all know that we are scared of arguing and that is what makes us use bad logic, but what we really need to do is stray away from the bad and WIN OUR ARGUMENTS!
