DENISE RICHARDS

After reading Heinrich's this weekend I have realized that the art of rhetoric is everywhere. In the very first pages of the assigned reading Heinrich explains the way to get what you want by being emotional.
Not too emotional though.
One statement that exemplifies this is, "emotion comes from experience and expectation when you argue emotionally and speak simply".
This can not be closer to the truth. In order to gain credibility one needs to be able to show the audience that you have a first hand feel on the situation. Using big words and being over dramatic makes you look pathetic and annoying. Also having too much passion for a subject can make your thoughts sporadic and confused.
But with the right combination of passion and experience you can have a winning argument.

Speaking of emotional arguments.. this weekend I was watching Denise Richard's show and she did this EXACT thing. Her father lives with her because her mother just passed away and together they have about nine dogs. The father wanted to put the dogs in a kennel while she was away in Hawaii with her girlfriends because they are untrained. When the dog kennel taxi showed up at the door Denise was so upset. She pulled at her father's heartstrings when she started saying her mother wouldn't like this and that they could die in the kennel. She claimed he would feel so terrible about this if this happened. Let's just say that he decided to let the dogs stay. Denise obviously manipulated her father especially with her sad eyes at the end of her argument.

Think about all the times you have manipulated your parents into buying you those new shoes, that sweet, or getting you that toy... those sad eyes ALWAYS get the job done.. as long as you control your emotions.
